To Paint Or Not To Paint??

I'm finally starting to decorate the living area in our home. I found cute little birdie candle holders at Pier 1 Imports. They were the perfect color match for the rest of the room. The walls are a chocolate brown and I'm adding shades of green as accents.

Here is an up close photo of the mantle.

The candlesticks on either side of the mantle were a gift from my wonderful sis, Stacy. She found them at a consignment store. Aren't they perfect?
The photo frame I found at a little shop in Franklin, KY. Loved the green color and the design. The front of it reads "Enjoy The Journey" I put a photo of Phil and I inside. This was the first of many road trips together. The glass vase with brown wicker bottom was also purchased at Pier 1.

Another photo of the mantle. See the mirror? That's the subject in question. Should I leave it the gold/brown color or paint it white? All of the trim in the area is painted white and I think it would really pop against the brown walls. Does the current color just blend in to much with the dark brown wall?

The color ties in well with the overhead light fixture. You can see the fixture in the mirrors reflection.

A New Kid In Town

My hope for this post was to show you a few of the shops near our home, but a snowstorm in our area delayed my plans. We don't get much snow in Tennessee so the 6" we got in our area was HUGE. Since I don't have any shopping trip photos to show you I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to introduce the newest member of our family.

Say "Hello" to Brodie

Brodie is a month old today. He is such a blessing and I look forward to spoiling him as much as I can. He will be here this weekend for our Super Bowl Celebration. I'm thinking he needs a Colts jersey. Not sure his dad would agree, but hey it's my house. :)

A place to call HOME

Wow, it's been a long time since I last posted. Thank you to everyone that sent messages and showed concern. My absence from blogland was due to several things going on, mainly life, job, the holidays and a move.

That's right!! We finally did it. We finally moved to Franklin, TN. I've been wanting to move to this area for several years. I knew one day I would be here and I love it. We are less than 2 blocks from the square.

We've got our house with the white picket fence. Check it out.

It's smaller than what we had, but we love it. Before our move we sold or gave away most of our furniture and home decor. I wanted to start new. I wanted this lil 1935 cottage to get the special treatment it deserves. I haven't purchased much for it yet. We did finally decide on a sofa and it should be here next month. That is pretty much the only thing I plan to buy that's new. The rest of the shopping will be done at flea markets, thrift stores and antique shops, which did I mention are within walking distance of our home? I hope to walk you through our neighborhood soon and may take you on some shopping trips. I'll post more photos later. I would love any and all input, decorating ideas and how to projects. I'm working with a small space and storage is limited. I need some creative ideas.

Happy Sunday

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful HOT day.

The temps this summer have been mild, but August holds true to it's reputation and has brought both heat and humidity to Tennessee. I'm not complaining. I do my complaining in the winter months.

So, what to do when the weather outside is too hot to enjoy? Stay indoors and paint.

I finished the 6'x6' floorcloth and shipped it out. I got a photo from my client yesterday showing the new floorcloth in her dining area.

You can't tell from the photo, but the colors used in the cloth are the same earthy tones as the tile on her dining table. The center is painted in cream and beige colors. The border is painted in burgundy/brown colors with a mix of green, red and cream floral and scrolled designs.

The larger floorcloths are a lot of work, but fun to paint. I'm currently working on another even larger floorcloth and hope to have it ready by mid week. That should keep me busy and out of the heat for a few more days.

Football season is here..........YAH! Well, preseason is here. I'm not big on preseason, but I just love me some football. My beloved Titans are playing the Bills. Fire up the grill it's time to tailgate. Bring on the beer and hot wings!!!

Yes..........I'm still here. :)
Things are finally beginning to settle down. Phil and I are still looking for a new place closer to work. We haven't found it yet, but I know it's out there.
I've been working on two large floorcloths. 6'x6' and a 6'x8'. Just finished one and the other is on the table and ready for the design to be painted.

Summer Nights and Monday's Music

I hope this post finds everyone doing well. I do apologize for my lack of posting, but this has been a busy summer. Let's recap our last 6 weeks.
1. I did a show in Franklin, Tn.
2. Family traveled to Mo. for a graduation celebration.
3. My son, Bryant got married June 6th. The bride and groom are doing well and they're the cutest couple.
4. Phil and I went on a weekend trip out of state.
5. Phil's Daughter, Cagney got married on June 26th. We had to travel 10 hours to Kansas for the lovely ceremony. The bride and groom smiled the entire weekend.
6. This coming weekend Phil and I plan to travel to see my son, Rusty in N.C.

Yes, we've had a full plate, but it's been full of family, fun and love! All this and we are planning on a move by summers end. I'm trying to destash, organize and donate. If I haven't worn it, used it, seen it (things are buried in my basement) or have a need for it, It's GONE!!

To celebrate summer and for Monday's Music selection (yes, I know it's late) I picked a scene from one of my all time favorite fun movies. Greas---Summer Nights!

Monday's Music Singer/Songwriters

If you know me well you know that James Taylor is my all time favorite Singer/Songwriter. So, this week I wanted to showcase a wonderfully talented man that just gets better with age. I could listen to J.T's music all day any day.

What you may not know is that James Taylor has a brother that also recorded in the late 70's. Livingston Taylor is a talent in his own right. I was recently introduced to his music and it looks like the talent in the family didn't stop at James.

Oh' but wait!!!! It doesn't stop there.....
How about a little Benjamin Taylor...Yes, The son of James Taylor and Carly Simon.

A very special Birthday!!

Happy Birthday to a very special man, PHIL!!

Phil moved to Tennessee in 2002 and I couldn't be happier that he made the move.

We worked at the same hospital for 3 1/2 years before we finally hooked up in 2006. Ask him and he will tell you it's because I ignored him and wouldn't talk (I'm very shy) ask me and I'll tell you it's because I was busy WORKING and he never paid much attention to me. Regardless of who's story you believe, I'm just thankful for him making the move and the great pick up line he tossed at me. It worked, maybe some day I'll do a post on pick up lines and use his as the #1.

We share so much in common. Our love of music and arts. We are both creative souls and dreamers. We are lucky to live in a town that is known as Music City USA. Most think of country music when they think of Nashville, but one trip downtown on any night or day of the week and you soon discover there is so much more than Country Music.

Phil and I out on the town with some friends. We love going out and listening to the local undiscovered highly talented singer/songwriters.

Phil is the nicest and most caring person I know. He is unselfish and very giving. His humor and outlook on life keep me smiling. He is a very upbeat and a positive soul. He never meets a stranger and is always the life of the party. We are polar opposites here, as I have said before I'm the quite one and somewhat shy, especially in a crowd. But, it is one of the things that attracted me to him. His outgoing personality.

How could I resist this cheesy grin?

Last night we went out to celebrate his B'Day. After a nice dinner at "Cabana's" we went to "The Listening Room" a music venue in Nashville. Jenny Gill, Vince Gill's daughter, was performing. We had seen her before and both were very impressed with her vocals. Her style is blues/rock with a hint of country. She sang some original material as well as Bonnie Raitt, Bill Withers and Stevie Wonder. She also sang "Happy Birthday" to Phil and introduced him to her father. He was on cloud nine all night and today.

Happy Pink Saturday. I've been participating in PS for a few months and along the way I've met so many bloggers and formed friendships. Thanks to Beverly for hosting PS and bringing so many bloggers together that otherwise might not have found one another. Today marks the one year anniversary of Pink Saturday. Congrats to Beverly and thank you for all you do. You can check out Beverly's blog for more pink post.

Glenda has challenged me to a game of seven. This game is about getting to know each other better. List 7 things about your self and then pass it on to 7 other bloggers and in doing so link to their blog also, and comment on their blog letting them know that they have been challenged. OK - here goes.

1. I belong to a wonderful group of local artist and we have been accepted at a local market in Franklin, TN to sell our artwork. Today is our first big show. (Wish me luck).

2. I don't know how to use a sewing machine, but I do sew sutures. I usually close the incisions at the end of surgical cases (I work at an orthopaedic surgery center). I would love to learn to sew.......any volunteers to teach me?

3. I have an addiction to scratch off lottery games. Well, just one in particular, Jumbo Bucks. I recently won $500. Not bad for a $2 investment. Okay my addiction isn't that bad. I may buy 4 or 5 a week.

4. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but I've recently discovered Sangria and I love it.

5. If I have the day off or it's the weekend. I'll spend the entire day in my p.j's if we have no plans.

6. I'm very quite in person.

7. I don't do long phone conversations and I really dislike text messaging, thou I do it almost every day.

Pay It Forward

A few weeks ago I signed up to participate in "Pay It Forward". Debbie @ http://onevintagehag.blogspot.com has sent me the sweetest gift. The gift had to be handmade/crafted by the giver. She claimed she wasn't that creative, but I think she did a marvelous job. The notebook is so useful and it matches my tablecloth. The notebook has uplifting quotes and words of inspiration. It even has frogs, which I told her I like.

Let's look inside. A ruler, always helpful for drawing out a floorcloth design, Post it notes, I can tag favorite pages in a magazine to reference later. Pencils and erasers, because YES, contrary to popular belief I do make a mistake now and then and need to use an eraser. :) Tabs for sorting the filler paper and highlighters.
I've put this in my van and carry it with me all the time now. I just never know when I'll get inspired and it's nice to have this to jot down notes or designs. Thanks, Deb!! I do apologize the post is getting up so late, but I love my new notebook and want to share with everyone your wonderful creativity and thoughtfulness.

Juli and Debi designed this one for me. I pretty much gave them free rein to design what they thought would fit the style in my bathroom, Vintage/Victorian Shabby, they also knew I liked pink, black and white. Aren't they the best?

The window is from a home in built in 1860 and the dish is from 1930/40's.

I can't even tell you how excited I am. I'll be staring out the window just waiting for a big brown van with UPS on the side to pull in my drive. He will not even have to knock. Heck, I'll probably open the van up for him as I scream, "Where's my package?"

Wal-Mart Greeter Maxine style

Maxine's 1st day of employment
So after landing my new job as a Wal-Mart greeter, a good find for many retirees, I lasted less than a day......

About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids,Yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance. As I had been instructed, I said pleasantly, 'Good morning and welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?' The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say, 'Heck no, they ain't twins. The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7. Why the heck would you think they're twins? Are you blind, or just stupid?'

So I replied, 'I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am, I just couldn't believe someone slept with you twice. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.'My supervisor said I probably wasn't cut out for this line of work.

(I want to be just like Maxine when I grow up)....

Monday's Music (It's Back)

It's been a while since I've done a Monday's Music post. Living in Music City USA there's not lack of material for post, but more lack of time.
Well....... it's back and have I got a good one for you.

Singing "Eye Of The Tiger" is PS22 a N.Y.C school choir. Led by Mr. B you can read his blog here. The chorus is made up mostly of 10 and 11 year old kids. They have awesome harmonies and great talent. I love that they sing current songs and have manage to become an internet sensation.

Pink Saturday ~~ Pink Bathrooms

Welcome to Pink Saturday. I've been decorating my bathroom in a vintage/shabby style. I'm always searching for inspiration and ideas to incorporate in my design. Here are a few of my latest online finds.

Sophisticated PINK. Love the soft shade of pink, mixed with white and blacks.

Check out the leaded window and lighting.

Love the pink and green combo, but this bath could use a little (lotta) love.

That's a lot of PINK.... The tiles are to bright for my taste.

Oh' much better. I like the softer shades of pink in this bathroom vs. the last. Check out the sconces. Nice huh? Love the built in shelving.

Not really my style. A bit to upscale, but I do like the chandy.

Like the pink/black combo. Love the floor tiles and the large sink. Walls could use a bit of decor.

If I had to pick a favorite in this line of photo's it would be the first. I love the soft pinks and the sophisticated/elegance of the room.

Atomic Warehouse

I recently found one of the coolest websites, AtomicWarehouse. I spent more than an hour just cruising the pages of the site and would love to some day visit their store location.

The store is chock full of wonderful goodies of 20th Century Designs. The large warehouse has something to offer most anyone with styles like Mission, Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, Retro, Vintage & Antiques

Here are several photos from the stores inside.

Love the retro signs and the tables. The yellow kitchenette is calling my name.
Do you see what I see? An aqua color stove......That would so match my kitchen backsplash.

Steve told me the website only showcases about 5% of what the 18,000 sq. foot store has for sell. Oh' and don't let the prices on the site fool you, he puts up the best of the best on the site.

Can it be SAVED?????

One stormy May morning as the skies lit up like the fourth of July. The one thing a blogger hopes never happens, happened. Yes, the fried computer. The sad thing is the sleep deprived, overworked and very tired user slept through the storm and didn't realize until later that she could NOT blog.

It happened around 3 a.m. I vaguely remember waking and looking out the window, but quickly drifted back to sleep. Only to be told later by the kids in the house (that were still awake) that we had a bad storm. They said the lightening struck right next to the house and immediately after heard crackling noises (the sound a pc makes as it's slowly goes to it's final resting place).

Apparently the lightening struck the cable lines. It first hit my modem, traveled to my router, then to the desktop and there it stopped. My monitor, speakers and printer all seem to be okay.

I could whine, cry, kick and scream, but that's not me. I was wanting a new desktop anyway, so ........... is this a blessing in disguise? Hmmmmmm... Maybe!!

Phil and I went out shopping and seen that we could easily replace the desktop for a few hundred $$$$ and it would be a much better PC than what I have now. I am going to shop around and see what deals are out there. In the meantime we purchased a new modem. We will have to share his laptop. ughh!!!

Phil (who works on electronics and medical equipment) thinks he may be able to save my desktop (darn' I really wanted a new one) and hopefully retrieve all our photos. Keep your fingers crossed he can get the photos back, but I'll get a new PC. :)

A few weeks back I was at Nikki's blog and she had posted about an Etsy artisan Polpetteclay that makes the cutest Peapod magnets. I knew right away I had to have one.....or two.....or three......Oh' I'm in trouble. I can see many orders in the future.

My Decorating Style

Susan @ Love Where You Live asked that her readers define their style by posting a single photo. "Select one photo that represents your own decorating style." I commented to Susan that my style is vintage/antique, but not grandmotherly antique. I also like cozy and comfort. I love this kitchen featured at Country Living They have a gallery of "How To Get The Look" kitchen photos.

This kitchen has several things that just call my name. The chippy painted cabinets with glass paneled doors (perfect for displaying vintage dishes). The extra large farm sink (notice the sink skirt is an old table cloth?)The detailed molding above the sink area used as a shelf to display vintage teapots and another one below just in front of the window, also used for displaying. Butcher block counter tops. Oh' and just look at the lighting.. A crystal chandelier. How sweet is that? The old farm table used as a kitchen center island. Ah uh' LOVING IT!!

Like Susan, I have a few file folders on my pc that have tons of inspirational photos of design ideas and decorating tips. I challenge my readers to show off their style in just a single photo.

VINTAGE WINDOW ART
This is not your ordinary window art. Debi and Juli are South Carolina natives who currently live in Monterey Bay, CA. Debi has a background in interior and landscape design and Juli in arts. Put those two together and you get more of this.....

Now is that not the prettiest windows you've ever laid your eyes on? They use windows that are 100+ years old. What better way to enjoy and display antique pieces of glassware than to incorporate them in art.
I know it's PINK Saturday, but I had to show you more of the lovely windows. I couldn't stop at just pinks.
These beautiful windows can be displayed in gardens, hung from porches or verandas but are just as easily used as decorations in the home.

The Legendary RYMAN AUDITORIUM and Awards

Last night Phil and I went to the Ryman Auditorium to see "Vince Gill & Friends, Jamm'n To The Beat Of The Blues".

The Ryman is one of the best venues in Nashville to see a show. It only seats about 2300 people and there isn't a bad seat in the house.

It was an amazing show. Vince's humor and talent made the show a MUST see, but we were rewarded with some local unknown talents. He featured two up and coming guitarist. These kids were amazing and were well worth the price of admission. Oh' btw, it was a charity concert for TN Mental Health Foundation. All of the singers and musicians donated their time and talents. The show was 3 hours long and worth every minute. Unfortunately I didn't take the camera. I read on the tickets NO camera's allowed. So being the good citizen I am. I followed the rules and watched everyone around me snapping photos. grrrrrrrr!!!!!

The list of performers included some of Vince's back up singers. The singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell, Guitarist/singer from Rascal Flatts, songwriters that have written with Vince on many songs. His lovely daughter, Jenny Gill and his wife, Amy Grant. Vince not only shared the stage with everyone, but willingly gave them the spotlight at times.

Here is a funny song Vince and Rodney co-wrote. "It's Hard To Kiss The Lips At Night That Chew Your Ass Out All Day Long" The line is one Vince's dad would use often and wanted him to write and record a song using this hook line. ENJOY!!

Pink Saturday ..Giveaways & More

I wanted to show you a lovely vase I purchased in a lot at a local auction. I purchased several sweet items for my Etsy Shoppe, Vintage Window, but this baby was mine to keep.

The lovely pitcher stands about 16" tall. It has beautiful roses and a scene painted on both the front and back. I'm not sure of the artist or the age, as it was unmarked and unsigned.

Here is a photo of the back. This picture came out better than the first. Look at all that beautiful detail. Can you say "Saaaweeeeeeeeeet"?

Here is a close up of the front design. Look at the lovely roses all around and the pink color is so soft and the details........ah' just perfect for my shabby bathroom.

ETSY & VINTAGE FINDS

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. The weather here has been sunny and warm the last couple days. I plan to get out and enjoy the weekend, hopefully doing some treasure hunting.

Today I thought I would share new items in my Etsty Shoppe "VintageWindow"

A set of tins painted in spring colors. Set includes a large pail (fill with ice, put your drinks in to keep cold) painted white, 3 smaller tins (add fresh cut flowers, place on your table for a sweet spring table centerpiece) painted in pastel pink, green and blue.

A vintage Breadbox. I painted this with a distressed peach finish and added the print (by Sonie Ames) using decoupage medium. I then added an aged finish and sealed the entire breadbox.

Vintage Bathroom/Vanity Set. Purchased at an estate sale, these are not a matching set, but rather a collection that was pieced together by the previous owner. The set includes a wonderful metal with plastic liner wastebasket. The front features a lovely rose. The footed swivel mirror has lovely detailing. There is also a footed tissue box and a brush/mirror set. The brush/mirror have chic gold/brushed gold stripes on the back side, they are made of a heavy plastic.

We also have vintage Gift Wrap and Greeting Cards. I still have more to add to the shop, but here are some samples of our current listings.

I'm not sure how many of you watch American Idol, but it's a PARTAYYYYY at my house every Tuesday night. I love music and this is a must see program for me. My favorite this year is Adam Lambert. I don't think I'm as crazy about him as Mishelle @ The Crowned Casa (SHE HAS IT BAD) but he has some AMAZINGLY MAD VOCAL SKILLS.

I could listen to him sing all day.

Now on to the Lazy Day part of my blog. Phil and I have been really busy entertaining guest, traveling to Missouri, full-time jobs, visiting family, Easter Holiday....etc. etc...etc....!! April has been crazy. I finally had a day off work and wanted to be so lazy, but........ I have piles of laundry to do. I was going to take a photo, but didn't want to embarrass myself. I did take this one....

Yep, those are Christmas socks and I had to wear them this past weekend due to all my socks being in the dirty clothes basket. Usually I complain that I have to go to the basement to do laundry, but I'm thankful the piles were hid down there and out of sight.

Think I hear the buzzer going off.......time to FOLD!!!

Pink Saturday Strawberry Cake

This week I'm sharing with you a recipe from Paula Deen of the Food Network. I made this cake a few weeks ago. It was a huge hit and Mitch requested I make it again for his 21st birthday. So, last weekend I once again made it and it was another huge success.

Check out that darling cake plate. It was a yard sale find last summer. I've been waiting for Easter to roll around so I could put it to good use. What better occasion than an April Birthday.
It has resin eggs all painted up that hang from the edges. So Cute.....btw, it was a bargain at just $3. The middle of the plate has a cute bunny, which you can't see now, but could not long after the cake was cut and GONE.

The recipe is below the photo. It was super easy to make and sooooo soooooooo moist.

Ingredients
1 (18.25-ounce) box white cake mix
1 (3-ounce) box strawberry-flavored instant gelatin
1 (15-ounce) package frozen strawberries in syrup, thawed and pureed
4 large eggs
1/2 cup veg. oil
1/4 cup water

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease 2 (9-inch) round cake pans.
In a large bowl, combine cake mix and gelatin. Add pureed strawberries, eggs, oil, and water; beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Pour into prepared pans, and bake for 20 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool in pans for 10 minutes. Remove from pans, and cool completely on wire racks.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (10-ounce) package frozen strawberries in syrup, thawed and pureed
7 cups confectioners' sugar
Freshly sliced strawberries, for garnish, optional

For the frosting:
In a large bowl, beat butter and cream cheese at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Beat in 1/4 cup of the strawberry puree (The rest of the puree is leftover but can be used in smoothies or on ice cream for a delicious treat.) Gradually add confectioners' sugar, beating until smooth.
Spread frosting in between layers and on top and sides of cake. Garnish with sliced fresh strawberries, if desired

NOTE: I did make a few changes to the frosting. I only used 6 cups of the confectioners sugar and used all 10 oz. of the pureed strawberries. The frosting is not as thick as Ms. Deen's, but it wasn't as sweet and I also only used half of it on the cake. The other half I saved and will use on cupcakes or on a bundt cake.

New Life & Not as young as I think I am

Hello All,

I've had a busy week and not had much time to post or blog. We had a big weekend and I've figured out I'm not as young as I would like to think. It was Mitch's (Phil's son) 21st Birthday and we had family visiting from Missouri, Kansas and Illinois. Rusty (My Son) was in for the weekend from the Navy. We had a blast, the young adults kept us up late hours and we spent a lot of time touring Nashville. I just can't hang with them anymore. I'm getting OLD!!

I'm back in a normal routine and hopefully will catch up with everyone over the next couple of days.

I wanted to update everyone on the Robin and her eggs. Well we no longer have eggs, but sweet little baby birds. Check them out. They look like cotton balls. hehe

We are trying not to disrupt the birds to much. It is so exciting to watch mama bird take care of her babies. I'll try to take a photo each day to see how they progress.

Pink Saturday ~ Pink Rose Lights

Welcome to another Pink Saturday. Please take time to visit our lovely hostess, Beverly @ How Sweet The Sound. There are around 150 Pink Saturday participants each week and I personally enjoy visiting as many Pinkies as possible.

I thought today I would share with you more photos of my bathroom. Phil and I were out shopping yard sales last summer. We made a stop at one sale and I purchased a few items, can't remember now what they were. As we were leaving we noticed a box that had free on it. I peeked inside and seen a bag of Christmas lights. Well you can never have enough of those, so I snatched them right up. When I got in the van I noticed an odd string of lights. hmmmmmmm!!! What is this? It was a short string of plastic pink roses that lit up. Now, these have been in the box since last summer. I thought maybe I would use them in a craft project or for a wreath. While redoing the bath I pulled them out of the closet. My first thought was to hang them around the mirror, but I didn't like the look.

Here is what I come up with, like it????

The plaster bowl was another yard sale find. The smaller bowl next to it was found at a thrift store. It was a silverplate dish with really bad silver loss, so I painted it white and pink and added small rose buds. It's the perfect size for hand soap.

Here are a few more photos of the bathroom. Little splashes of pink all around. I don't think I've purchased anything in this bath at a retail store with the exception of the shower curtain (Purchased at Home Goods). Most were yard sale and thrift store purchases.

Notice the iron plant stand? I paid $7 for it at a yard sale. I had it outside for a while, but decided to bring it in to the bath. I put lotions, soaps and sprays in the top and magazines on the bottom, undecided on what to put in the middle. Some rolled towels maybe? Any suggestions?

The table was purchased last year at the 31W yard sales. I paid around $10. I gave it a shabby redo. Painted it pink and lightly distressed. The bucket underneath is actually an old ice cream bucket painted in a sage green color with pink roses on the front (yep I painted it)I use this to hold extra rolls of toilet tissue.. I purchased one rug on Ebay and the other at a thrift store. (I've got some ideas for a painted floorcloth in this area). Photo of the second rug below.

Cheap Kitchen Backsplash

Still working on the kitchen redo. I wanted a back splash that was easy and cheap to install. I wanted something that looked retro'ish (Is that a word?) We have family visiting from out of state this weekend, so I didn't want to take on a huge project. What to do......what to do?

While shopping the kitchen aisle at a local discount department store I stopped when I seen some funky fun contact paper. hmmmmmmmmm' could it work? Worth a try at just $1.99 a roll. I purchased two rolls.

If you look above the window you can see I added some of the paper at the top.
(Note to self, buy new curtains).

Not bad for less than $5. It's easily removed, so if I tire of it anytime soon it's no big deal.

The great thing about using the contact paper is you can reposition it while hanging. I do have a few wrinkles in the paper here and there, nothing that noticeable. I did this in less than 30 minutes. I would suggest having someone helping you or cutting the paper in smaller sections, to make applying to wall and smoothing out easier.

Over the last few months I've been lucky enough to get to know Angie. We first met in an EBay group and the friendship has since moved to our blogs. Angie is a talented artist and willingly shares her knowledge of the art of floorcloth making, which has been very helpful for rookies such as myself. Her floorcloths have been featured in many local and national publications and in the books, Contemporary Western Design by Thea Marx and The Complete Book of Floorcloths by Kathy Cooper

She has been designing and painting floorcloth for more than 20 years. Angie also has an Etsy Shop where she sells her painted floorcloths, ceramic platters and ACEO's. Most of her designs have a southwest feel to them.

Monday's Music ... Rockin' Robin

Welcome to another edition of Monday's Music.

This weeks selection is The Jackson 5 singing Rockin' Robin.
Wow, check out the clothes!! I so gotta get me an outfit like that. Love the 70's funk wardrobe and music.

There was a reason I picked this song. Phil had a hanging plant that got bit by old man winter and didn't survive. He was heartbroken. We just forgot to bring it in one cold night and that was it. He left the pot hanging on the porch throughout the winter as a reminder of what NOT to do. We (HE) had plans to replant something, but......check out what bloomed in this lovely pot.

Yes, a Robin has made itself home in the hanging pot.

Ah' but that's not all, look at what's inside.

Three little Robin eggs. We have sat and watched the bird. She is hilarious when she is trying to get comfortable or making her nest. It looks as if she is dancing.
I'm not sure how long the eggs have been there, but we know at least 5 days, it could be more. Phil did a bit of research and read that the eggs hatch in 12-16 days and the baby robins should be ready to leave the next in another 16 days. It should be fun to watch the babies.

Retro Kitchen Floorcloth Rug

I've been redoing my kitchen in a vintage/retro theme. Still a lot of work to be done, but it's coming along. I purchased a set of canisters from Craiglist. They have some cool graphics on the front. I decided to make myself a floorcloth to put in front of my sink. I used one of the designs from the canisters.

Here's the finished cloth. It is also available in my StepOnItArt Etsy Shop.

Here is the set of canisters I purchased for $10. Check out my lady chef toothpick holder. Think I paid around .50 cents for it at a yard sale.

Earth Hour

Tonight my family participated in Earth Hour.

Lights went out at tourism landmarks and homes across the globe on Saturday for Earth Hour 2009, a global event designed to highlight the threat from climate change.
Australia first held Earth Hour in 2007 and it went global in 2008, attracting 50 million people. The hope is one billion people from 90 countries around the globe will take part.

I do believe we should each do our part to save our planet. Hey' it may save me a few dollars on my electric bill, now that's not a bad deal.

What did we do in our hour of darkness you may ask?

We lit some candles.

Pulled out a deck of cards and poker chips for some good ol' Texas Hold'Em fun.

We had so much fun and decided we are going to do this once a week. One hour once a week NO LIGHTS, NO TV, NO LAPTOPS, NO PC'S, NO RADIO! Nothing but a fun time with the family and a little less of a carbon footprint on this beautiful planet.

I challenge each of you to participate in Earth Hour. Even if it's once a year, once a month, once a week or once a day.

A NEW BLOG DRESS

What girl doesn't love a new spring dress? How do you like mine? A new blog makeover. Like my dress? It's my BLOG DRESS!!!

I was the lucky winner of a blog giveaway from Little Window Shoppe If you haven't visited Emily's blog please check it out. Her blog is full of creative projects, recipes, and giveaways. She also does blog and web design. Check out her website and portfolio. Emily was so easy to work with. I gave her ideas of what I wanted and she just ran with my ideas and not only met my expectations, but went way beyond.

I wanted an easy to wear blog design with a bit of whimsy. A few retro flowers thrown in and the colors of turquoise blue and brown. Yep, I got exactly what I wanted and more.

With the new design in place. I will be changing a few things. I plan to do some features of different blogs and websites each week. So if you have a blog/website or know someone that does and you would like to be featured or have them featured please send me an email. Sanctuary Arts Makeover

Well I'm a day late getting this posted, but due to Phil and I driving to Mo. and back I got slightly delayed on my post.

Please take time to visit Sanctuary Art for her monthly Makeovers. She has several bloggers participating and showing off their talented makeovers.

My contribution this month is a Terra Cotta Table.
I made this a couple years ago to use on my front porch.

Here's what you need to make your own.

2 12" terra cotta pots (you can use smaller or larger depending on the size table you want)

1 large terra cotta saucer

1 or 2 bags of decorative pebbles.

You will also need an epoxy glue, acrylic resin, paint and sealer.

I started by base painting the pots then applied a faux stone finish using several earth tone shades of paints and a sponge to apply.

I turned the first pot upside down and applied epoxy glue. I placed the second pot on top. Let it dry completely then I added the large saucer painted in the same finish using the same epoxy glue. Once that was dry I added the decorative pebbles and the acrylic resin, which sets the rocks in place and gives them a glossy sheen.

I also added a round glass top and used rubber bumpers attached to the saucer to keep it from sliding around. You could omit the glass and use this idea as a bird feeder. Or keep the glass and add sand, shells...etc. for a beachy look. You have several options for the final result and its a fun project.

Monday's Music "The Dance"

Today brought sad news to Phil and his family in Mo. A lifelong friend of the family passed away. I never got the opportunity to meet him, but Phil has talked about him and his brother in several conversations. He was just 42 years old. Much too young to leave this world. Phil said he was an amazing musician and songwriter. Most of you that know me through my blog or outside of my blog know that Phil is also a songwriter and that is what brought him to Nashville. I will always be thankful that he didn't let non-believers stop him from pursuing his dream to live in TN and someday hear one of his songs on the radio.

My choice for today's Monday Music selection... "The Dance" written by, Tony Arata and performed by, Garth Brooks. Garth Brooks met Tony Arata singing at a songwriter's night at Douglas Corner in Nashville. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I'm thankful that neither of these guys gave up. Most of us have heard this song and been reminded of someone we lost in our lives, but it's also about following your dreams and living life to the fullest, without regrets, understanding that we have to go through hard times to appreciate the good.

Pink Saturday.... A splash of color

I've been redoing my guest bathroom. I'm adding a bit of feminine to a home full of men. YES' I get one room in the house to add some frou frou.

I've just started on this redo and here are some of the pink items I've added so far.

First on the list is a vase purchased at an estate sale. The sides feature 3 pink roses with raised details. I haven't added anything inside, YET!

I found a vintage metal shelf at a thrift shop and painted it white. I've added some pinks. I haven't decided if I like the look, but it will do for now.

A pink towel hangs from the shelf. It reads "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" I picked this towel up while out antique shopping in Crossville, TN. In the bottom corner of the photo you can see a glimpse of a silver tray I painted white and added pink roses.

I have purchased some photos to display, I just need to buy or make frames for them. Once finished I'll do a post on the completed bathroom.

Cotton Candy Trees?

What do you do when your significant other ask, "Hey baby, wanna go junk'n"
Well you jump in the shower and change as fast as you can before he changes his mind. It was a lovely day. The temp was 72 and the sun was shining.
While out I had to make a stop at Hobby Lobby. On the way back out to the van I got a bit confused and thought someone had parked this baby in my space.

It would of been so easy for me to jump in and have Phil take a picture, but I didn't really want to go to jail on such a perfect day.

We drove around in the lousy (mommy) van, but we didn't let it spoil our drive. Look at the view we had.

I've been doing some spring cleaning around the house. I was able to con Phil into helping me. It took a few promises of beer and .....well more beer, but he finally caved in and was very excited to help. SEE!! Doesn't that look like a face that is willing to give up a lazy day to clean house?

Yep, he is a KEEPER!

The "Screw Ups" Volunteer

If you read yesterdays post, then you know I was working with Habitat for Humanity, Project Women Build. We had a blast and it felt good to give back. I have a new appreciation for construction workers. WOW' my body aches all over. I used muscles that have been retired for a very long time or I didn't know existed.

I hadn't been to the construction site, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The house was already roofed...yeahhhhhhh, which meant we would not have to endure the rain that continued to pour all day long and would be working inside. The decision was made that we would be hanging drywall. Okay, ladies I've never hung drywall, but if you need some installed I'm your WOman!! Not only did I hang drywall, my job was to hang the ceiling drywall. I'm only 5'3" tall, but I didn't let my SHORTcomings hold me back.

My partner for the day was, Stacy..

(can't believe I'm actually posting these photos, not the most attractive photo of me...yuck) Each group gave themselves a nickname ours was "ScrewUps" haha' I thought it was pretty clever considering we were screwing in the drywall overhead.

Here is my sister, Lori.

I nicknamed her "HammerTime" Her job was to make sure all the nails in the wall were sunk. How she got that cushy job is beyond me?????

Our original plan was to leave around 5 in the afternoon, but luckily for us the afternoon crew showed up around 1 p.m. with hammers in hand and ready to get to work. I got home around 2:30 and was exhausted. Am I getting old or just that out of shape? hmmm' or both? I came home and took a 3 hour nap. I never take naps.

It was a great day and I hope to get the opportunity to volunteer again.

Okay I admit they're actually garden gloves, but I'm not planting any flowers. I will indeed need the gloves and these have a great rubbery pink texture. Perfect for keeping a good grip on a hammer. I don't want any blisters when I'm finished.

That's my OLDER (notice how I emphasize OLDER, okay just a couple years older) sister, Lori. I will be joining her and 100's more ladies at 8 a.m sharp and we will finish the day at 5 p.m.
I do hope the weather plays nice with us. As of now there is a 70% chance of rain and a high of 46 BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! I will need more than pink gloves to keep me warm, but it's all worth the chill bumps, cold feet and runny nose. I believe we should all volunteer, whether it's at a local nursing home reading to elders, cooking a meal at a local soup kitchen, taking time to tutor a student.....or simply picking up garbage along the side of the road. Let's do our part and share with each other love and pride for our community and our nation.

Something to PONDer

Finally Friday and time to relax and/or kick up your heels.

I have a folder on my PC that is packed full of ideas for home and garden. My Inspiration Folder. Some people have an Inspiration Board, which provides them a visual. I didn't really have a place to hang a board (or was too lazy to make one) so I just put all the photos in my handy dandy click of a button instant visual gratification folder.

My folder contains favorite photos found all over the Internet, from favorite kitchens, media rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, Irish pubs (yes I want to have an Irish pub/game room/sportsbar....wouldn't that be a favorite hangout in a home?) to outdoor gardens and PONDS. One of my clients that I've done several projects for has the most beautiful yard, front and back, each year they are featured in their hometown garden tour. I'll try to get some photo's next time I'm at their home. It's amazing all of the work and creativity that has went into making their yard a tranquil oasis.

I've always wanted a Koi/Fish Pond, complete with waterfalls and lush landscape surrounding. When I finally start this project, maybe I'll start on a small scale.

Something easy to maintain.

But still packs a punch.

Or I can opt for something just a bit larger.

And of course I saved the best for last. Just to prove a point. Regardless of where you live, what kind of home you reside, your budget, how you garden and landscape. A water feature, whether it's on a large or small scale, will spiff the place up a bit.

A Vintage Slumber Party

Phyllis @ For The Love Of Vintage just turned 46 and to celebrate this special day she is hosting a slumber party. Oh' what fun we girls will have visiting each other and helping Phyllis celebrate.

It's time to go and I need to pack my bag. I decided to take a Beatles Bag. How much fun is this bag for a sleepover?

Now, what should I pack in the cute bag?
How about some snacks.... This gift basket should do the trick. A great gift for our host and perfect snacks to nibble on while watching movies.

I'll also need some P.J's and a vintage manicure set. I love my cozy comfy V.S. pajamas.

I will also need a something to sleep on. Don't really want a sleeping bag, but a sweet rag quilt should do the trick.

I think I'm ready to head to the party. I'll just jump on my bike and pedal my way to some fun.

Phil and I go out to songwriter nights in the Nashville area on a regular basis. I'm always amazed at the undiscovered talent in Nashville. Pink Saturday...Yummy Cakes

I don't watch a lot of network tv, but I do enjoy watching HGTV and FoodNetwork.
One of my favorite shows on FoodNetwork is the Network Challenge, especially if they are making cakes. I'm always amazed at the creations they come up with in just a few hours.

Phil has agreed to take a cake decorating class with me. I think it will be a lot of fun. I was really surprised when he said he would go with me, but he is full of creativity. Maybe after we go to a few classes we can have a Cake challenge and I'll let you guys be the judge. hmmmmmm sounds like fun.

Good Gourd it's Friday

Hi everyone. Wow the weather here has been wonderful and I've been thinking of some outdoor project. I have two large boxes of gourds in my basement. I'm thinking it's time to start painting up some items for my porch. Phil loves birdhouses and I want to take a few of those gourds and make some to hang on the patio. Until I get around to painting up the spring gourds, I thought I would share with you some of my past creations.

Happy Hump Day!!

I was tagged by Angie to show off my 6th photo in my 6th folder. I was a bit scared to go see what it was, but turned out it's a photo of a beautiful amaryllis flower. Phil has two amaryllis plants. They bloom once a year. One bloomed a pretty tangerine color and the other bloomed white with pink tips. This photo is a close up of the white and pink.

Isn't it lovely? Phil, has the green thumb in the family. I would figure out a way to kill a fake plant, not even gonna try the real deal.

I've posted about Franklin, Tn. and how much Phil and I love this small city just south of Nashville. We manage to drive down for a visit about twice a month or more. Each time we go we always drive around the historic district. We oooh and ahhhh' at all the lovely homes. Every trip we manage to find a new home up for sale and always take photos. The last time we were there we stumbled upon this beauty.

Is it not GORGEOUS??? Built in 1930 and full of charm. I love all the molding, the 3 fireplaces and the cherry floors. Yes, I could easily live here. It is actually more space than we need and we a bit (okay a lot) out of our price range, but a girl can dream can't she? It has been marked down over $200 grand. Maybe I'll hit the lottery.

I did the math. If I can PAINT and SELL 26 of my smaller floorcloths a DAY for one YEAR I would have enough to pay cash for it. yaaaaaaaaaah' I better get busy.

Tuscan Tile Floorcloth

Been busy this week painting a floorcloth for a client. She wanted a floorcloth to match the tile in her kitchen. She plans to use this in front of her sink. The tiles in her kitchen are a bit lighter than what was painted on the cloth. We decided to go darker than her tile so it would pop against the floor. I also added the grout color as a border around the edges.

Monday Music Jonny Lang Style

Last week I featured Joss Stone who is an incredible young talent. She started out her career at an early age. This week I wanted to feature another young talent.
Jonny Lang. He first picked up a guitar at the age of 12 and joined a blues band at the age of 15. If you follow blues/jazz I'm sure you've heard of him. If not let me introduce you to Jonny Lang.

This clip is a short interview and some of his tunes.

Not bad for a kid from North Dakota. His guitar skills are amazing and he has the vocals to match those skills.

Beach Bathroom

I painted this bathroom for a client recently. This is her elderly mothers bathroom. She loves going to the beach and wanted the walls to reflect the colors of the ocean and sky. She also wanted the wall to have a texture like sand.

I used varying shades of blues and whites. I also did a washed out weathered finish on the molding.

The wall finish was done with textured ceiling paint. I applied a thin layer and used a trowel to spread it out and then used a wire wheel brush to achieve the pitted look in areas. The last photo shows an up close look at the wall. (Click on any photo to make larger)

This week I wanted to feature a very good friend of mine, Suzanne Davenport.

Suzanne is a beautiful lady both inside and out. We met about a year ago through an ebay group and soon discoreved we lived about 20 minutes from each other. Still it took us a while to actually meet in person. You know that awkwardness you have just before meeting someone for the first time. You go through the scenerio in your head of what the meeting will be like and you worry you may not like them or vice-versa eeeek, she may not like me!! Well, when I did get to finally meet her, it was just like we had known each other forever. We just clicked in person like we had online. She is short like me.....hehe!! We could be sisters.

Suzanne paints some of the prettiest ROSES. Her skill with a paint brush just amazes me. One day I hope to paint a rose as pretty as the ones she seems to paint effortlessly. Mine are okay, but hers.....well I'll let you be the judge.

Happy Hump Day!!

I wanted to share with everyone a new item in My Etsy Shop.
I will be painting a line of placemats, each will feature different designs and colors. They can also be custom ordered to match your decor.

My first listing is a blue/black placemat with a Fluer De Lis design in opposite corners. The placemats measure 12" x 20". I can also paint a matching table runner. Put a monogram in the center.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. How was your Valentine's Day?
Phil and I had Mexican at a new local restaurant. It was fantastic. After our fabulous meal we headed to the theatre. We seen the new movie, "He's Just Not That Into You". I wasn't sure if I would like the movie or not, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a one of those feel good movies that leave you rooting for the cast to have a happy ending. It also reminded me of why I'm thankful to no longer be in the dating scene.
I would give this movie 4 stars out of 5.

Now on to Monday's Music. (keeping with the love theme)

How to paint an office ~~~ divided

I had a client that wanted their office repainted. I've painted other rooms in their lovely home and they have been such a joy to work with. So, I was excited that I get to come back and paint more. Nothing like a repeat customer to boost your ego. (Yah' they like me) LOL

They tell me they want the office painted in a sports theme. hmmmmmmm

They share the office. hmmmmmmmmmmmm

They DON'T share a love for the same team. OH NO!!

There office is really full of furniture and shelves. The only exposed part of the wall would be the top half. Actually it's not even half, more like the top two feet below the ceiling.

He (As you can see in the photos) is a University of Tennessee fan.

She (also seen in photo) is a Memphis University Graduate and fan.

This job took a bit longer than expected because there was wallpaper and border that had been hanging in the room for at least 25 years. NOT EASILY REMOVED, but we managed to get it all down after two days of scrapping and sweating. The lettering and checkerboard were also time consuming, but I think they turned out pretty good.

Here was my solution.

10. DIET MT. DEW (Yes, I admit my addiction and I'm going to seek help, but only when I'm ready).

Monday's Music & Is he cheating?

I never thought I had to worry about my relationship with Phil. He is a wonderful caring man, who supports me in all my craziness. BUT.....BUT....BUT Now I know the truth. Should I be worried?

He left the house in disguise. (looks like a popular magazine took his photo)

I've been working out and offered to spice things up by dressing up like wonder woman. Hoping to put a fire back in our romance.

Despite all my efforts I could never compete with such a beauty. Maybe he likes his woman BIG and HAIRY. I could eat more, dye my hair black and never shave again? I could jump in a stream and bring home the daily catch. I could hibernate with him all winter. I could look hungrily into his eyes and lick my nose with my tongue (may require minor surgery). I could and would do just about anything, but somehow I don't think it would ever be enough. I just can't compete with this......

He was so happy with his conquest he wrote about it on his blog. All the dirty details.
I hang my head in shame, while searching for a bear trap. :)

Monday's music is dedicated to all the ladies that have been cheated on by their man. This is from Joey & Rory.
If you haven't heard of this duo. They are a married couple that lives just south of Nashville. They are very talented and very much in love. Joey and Rory competed on the Nashville based show "Can You Duet" They didn't win, but they stole the hearts of many viewers and the judges. Enjoy!!

Pink Saturday..... Shopping in Franklin, KY.

Last week I took you on a shopping trip to Franklin, TN. This week I'm going north to Franklin, KY. Both are somewhat similar. Franklin, Ky offers a variety of shops, cafes and antique malls all centered around the town square.

We got there late on Friday afternoon, which didn't leave us much time to shop. Think I'll go back this weekend. I have plenty more shopping to do. :)

Our first stop was Heritage Antique Mall. The second was Brights Antique World.

TGIF!!!

It's Friday and I have the day off. Guess how I start out my day?
By waking up 30 minutes before the alarm normally goes off. Great, the day of the week when I can actually sleep in and I'm wide awake at 4 am. yaaaaaaaah'

I figured I would take advantage of the quiet house and make myself a pot of coffee and surf the net.

This is a beautiful impressionist piece and I'm happy with the results of this. I love a beautiful sunrise and I'm a morning person.

Superbowl Feast

Congrats to the Steelers for their win this past Sunday. It really hurts me to write that, but kudos for a great season.

The best thing about this years Superbowl was the feast we prepared for the game. While it may not look like a lot, it was plenty for only 4 people. I'm sure I gained about 5 lbs.

Phil made his legendary hot wings.

I made a (I need to give this recipe a name) chilled bean dip, sausage & cheese pinwheel croissant and brownies.

Mitch (my future stepson) and Kelly (my future step-dil) made a cake decorated for the game. Kelly also made a tray of crackers, cheese and veggies.

We had a blast watching the game. I wasn't really cheering for either team, but just wanted a good game and that it was.

I would have to say my favorite commercial would be the dorito's(free dorito's at work) and the E*Trade baby with his pal singing.

I thought I would share my recipe for the bean dip stuff. LOL!! It is so yummy. I serve it with chips. It could also be used in a salad or served with warm tortilla's.

Recipe (You give it a name)
1 large can black beans (drained)
1 small can corn (drained)
1 small red onion (diced)
1 bunch cilantro (finely chopped)
1 avacado (diced)
1 can rotel (drained)
1 lime
Mix all ingredients together and add the juice of one lime.
Chill in fridge for a couple hours or overnight.
I serve with chips.

This was August 2008. Rusty, Me, Phil and Bryant went to see the Cardinals play the Braves in St. Louis. It was a great day and HOT!! I didn't complain about the heat, I would welcome it right now. The Cards won the game. I'm wearing a PINK Cardinals Jersey, my MIL gave me as a birthday gift.

I'm suppose to give you 8 facts about myself. (Hate to break it to you all, I'm pretty boring). But I'll try to entertain you.

1. I'm double jointed in my shoulders. How do I know this you may ask? Well I can hold a stick in front of me with my arms straight down my side and raise it up and over my head and down my back without bending my elbows. Go ahead try it.

2. I have a license to drive a motorcycle. I have owned two bikes in the past. I gave up my leathers and helmet years ago.

3. I was a huge tomboy growing up. I played sports, climbed trees, played with cars. I'm still a tomboy @ heart. I feel more comfortable in a pair of tennis shoes, sweat shirt and jeans than in a frilly dress.

4. When I was a kid I wanted to be an architect. I use to doodle on my tablet, drawing out houseplans and arranging furniture.

5. One of my favorite meals is a thick juicy ribeye steak with a frosty mug of beer to wash it down.

6. I have a fear of fire/flames. I could never be a pyromaniac.

7. I love to sing, but can't carry a tune.

8. My favorite song growing up was "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head"

Pink Saturday ~~~ Dreaming of WARM SUNSHINE

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm so over winter. Yes, I realize it is only the second week in Jan. but I'm ready to feel warm sunshine on my face, dip my tootsie's in a pool and have a picnic.

I was thinking I do have some time left to get into shape before the swimsuit season arrives. I still have babyfat from the birth of my last child. Yes, he will be 19 in a week, but the fat is still on my thighs and belly.

I found some cute PINK swimsuits I thought I would share this week. Get your mind off the cold winter months and plan that backyard bbq. It will be here before you know it.

Office Space...The thrills of a job and personalities

It's been over a week since I joined the workforce. As in actually waking up to an alarm ringing at 5:00 am only to hit snooze at least 2 times. Make a mad dash to the shower, try to make my hair and the rest of ME look presentable, warm up the car, make a lunch and when that's all done, drive 40 minutes to punch a timeclock. Ah' the wonders of a regular paycheck. Don't get me wrong I'm very grateful for having a job and for the paycheck that comes along with it. My creditors are happier than me. :)

I have come to realize a few things about the workforce and your co-workers. It doesn't matter if you are a teacher, secretary, general labor, nurse, store clerk or garbage collector. What ever your OFFICE SPACE IS....wherever you punch the clock, the staff is the same. Full of different personalities. Most of which are very humorous to me. I try not to sweat the small stuff in life. I firmly believe that if you are unhappy in your current situation then you should change it. Opportunity is always around the corner. It's up to you to find it.

Just to re-confirm. I'm happy to be working again and when or if the day comes I get burnt out. I will at that time make the needed changes.

Now, back to my observations regarding the OFFICE STAFF. Every work environment has the below list of folks on the staff. Let's start out with........

1. The DRAMA QUEEN.

The drama queen is not gender specific. I've met many a males that are just as dramatic as females. They are never happy and always looking for someone that will listen. Everything is blown out of proportion... i.e; They see a small fender bender driving into work. By the time they get there the dent on the poor guys car that got rearended at the stop sign, suddenly turned into the car rolled over three or four times, the fire dept. had to use the jaws of life to get the driver out, while they were also putting out the flames. Luckily lifeflight showed up just in time to perform cpr on the passengers and fly them to the nearby hospital. .....whew!!
They drama queen is often buddies with the........Cry Baby.
2. CRY BABY.....

The cry baby is the one that cries every time they are giving a new job or task to do. They cry when someone else gets a promotion. They cry when they break a nail. The cry when the sun shines. They cry when the moon is full. They cry when they open their eyes and when they sleep. boooohoooohooooooo!! The have two friends, the previously mentioned Drama Queen and the Complainer.

3. The Complainer....

Not to be confused with the Cry Baby, this one doesn't cry. Maybe if they did, some of that pent up anger and frustration would be forgotten. They are very vocal and very loud. They complain to the cry baby, the drama queen and anyone else who will listen or is standing within a mile radius, because they know if you are that close then they can and will be heard. Their best friend is the HYPOCHONDRIAC..

4. HYPOCHONDRIAC.....

Similar to the complainer, the Hypochondraic also complains, not about other people or the job, but their aching feet, the upset stomach, headache, carpal tunnel syndrome, bulging disc and the high cost perscription drugs. This is the one that misses at least 2 days a month. They are over medicated and out of shape. They eat 3 slices of pizza, a snickers bar and a large bag of chips every day for lunch and wonder why their ankles have turned to kankles. High blood pressure, bad cholestorl levels, overweight and always too tired to make it through a day. They see numorous Doctors on a regular basis (once a week or more). If they aren't sick then one of their 5 kids are not felling well. If anyone in the office is sick suddenly they have the same symptoms, but much worse. They are often upset that nobody understands them and they've had a hard life.... they are usually best friends with The DITZ ....

5. THE DITZ.....

You have to feel somewhat sorry for the Ditz. Uh, NO YOU DON'T. They walk around with the "deer in the headlights" look on their face. HUH? The ditz is usually pretty clueless that everyone is taking jabs at them and laughs along, sadly thinking the comments are about some other poor soul. They are best friends with ....THE DOORMAT!

6. THE DOORMAT..

Like her best friend (the ditz) the doormat is often clueless. They get the crap jobs nobody else wants to do. Poor thing doesn't even know she is a doormat. They are in a state of denial. They can't say "NO". They can't say "YES". They just need guidance and lot's of it. They tend to hang out with the KNOW-IT-ALL. The yin/yang of the office. They compliment each others personalities.

7. KNOW-IT-ALL..

There isn't much I can say here. The know-it-all knows everything which usually equates to nothing of real substance. All of the above mentioned personalities goes to the know-it-all for advice. The know-it-all knows everyone in the building, from the CEO to the vending machine guy. They make it a point to voice their opinions in every meeting and reply (to-all) to every company-wide email. They are pals with.....THE GOSSIPS

8. THE GOSSIPS....

The Gossips are usually a group of co-workers. The leader of the gossips is THE-KNOW-IT-ALL. The gossips are the group that hang around the water cooler, the front door, the back door, the hallway, the bathroom. Where ever they can find a place to have the gossip meeting. They thrive on the latest smut. Their life depends on it. Their job depends on it, if they had nothing to gossip about they would have to actually be productive. Their sentences usually begin with one of the following. WHAT??? Did you hear? Guess what? I bet you didn't know. You're not going to believe this. Did you know? One of the co-leaders in the gossip group is ..HOUDINI

9. HOUDINI....

Houdini manages to get out of every job assignment. They can be talking to you and poof.......gone. Nowhere to be found. They play a vital role in the gossip group. They are in charge of finding the secret meeting spots. They are the master of disguise, the illusionist. They are productive at doing nothing, but somehow manage to look busy. Don't take this one lightly, they are very smart. They manage to stay under the radar. They don't care about glory or fame, but rather the clock striking 5' yeahhhhhhhhh' time to dash out of their hiding spot and out the door. They are often friends with the STORY TELLER. (What better way to waste time than listening to the story teller tell of his latest adventure, while looking like they are having a very important meeting).

10. THE STORY TELLER...

The Story Teller can be entertaining at times. They keep you up to date on the latest crisis in the world. They tell you of all the big adventures they have experienced. They tend to stretch the truth a bit, but hey that's hollywood for you. They're a world of useless knowledge and would probably be a great partner in trivia pursuit or a lifeline on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. They are often pals with TMI.

11. TMI..

TMI....TOO MUCH INFORMATION. They will make sure you know when they are going to the bathroom and what they plan to do while there. They will also give you a full report on their return from the bathroom. They will also tell you of his/her last sexual encounter. They share with you the time night they spent in jail, the time they decided cross dressing seemed like a fun thing to do. They are more than willing to share with you all the details of their prostate exam. They share not only with you, but anyone willing to listen, especially the boss. Because of their sexual talks they like to hang out with THE FLOOZIE.

12. THE FLOOZIE...

What can I say here?? FLOOZIE about sums it up. The office tramp. Anyone that is willing to spend some time with him/her is fair game. Just dangle some meat in front of them and they will start the chase. They're friends with THE AGE CONFUSED.

13. THE AGE CONFUSED...

The age confused is the man/woman in your office that is mid 50-ish, but dresses like they are mid-twenties. Mini skirts are appropriate office attire, right? When all the ladies at the office decide it's time for a girls night out the AGE-CONFUSED is the one that decides all the twenty somehting guys want to see her pole dance routine on the top of the bar at a local tavern. She is the one that decides if noone ask her to dance she will dance with herself. The lone dancer...so sad!
She is not a floozie, but desperately yearns to be just like her.

15. MOTHER HEN... This is the real group leader. She/He is there for everyone. The one that has to make the gossipers go back to their desk, consoles the floozie and age-confuses when upset over the latest breakup, finds houdini when he is missing, tells the complainer and crybaby to wipe the tears, put on their big girl panties and get back to work. Tells TMI to put a cork in it. Informs Drama Queen that the office isn't really shutting down due to the economy. Encourages Door Mat to take up for themself. Mother Hen is much needed she is like the Big Mama of the office. The glue that keeps the family together.

Lastly on my list is the few NORMAL PEOPLE. The normal people are the hard workers, the productivity of the office. They get the job done and leave it at work. They have normal lives, normal stories and a normal family. They are all of the above rolled into one. :) I'm happy to be normal.....how about you?

American Idol

Yes, American Idol is back on TV tonight. I look forward to every season. I've watched since season 1. This season will bring a big changes. AI will have a new judge, Kara DioGuardi. Along with a new, fourth judge, more semifinalists and a “wild-card” round that gives some contestants a second chance to go to the finals.

Also, “American Idol” this season will feature three rather than four weeks of auditions, moving on more quickly to the Hollywood round and spending less time featuring contestants whose sole purpose in auditioning seemed to be to make fools of themselves in front of the judges. I was never a big fan of the audition part of idol. I know for some viewers this was the best. I appreciate talent, not stupidity.

Mondays Music ~~ Titans Tribute

By now most of you know my beloved Titans lost to the Ravens 13-10 on Saturday. Though I was sad we lost the game, I have to say.........What a great year!!
Not one person expected the Titans to do as well as they did and for that I'm celebrating. I raise my BEER mug and say "JOB WELL DONE GUYS" I look forward to next season. Enjoy the tribute to the Titans on their winning season. Music by AC/DC

Tennessee Titans

This is not my normal Saturday Pink Saturday post. Today is all about FOOTBALL!!

Most of you know I'm a huge football fan. Tennessee Titans is my team. I'm so excited today to watch our first playoff game of the year. The team went 13-3 in regular season giving us home field advantage. The Titans will be playing the Baltimore Ravens today @ 3:30 cst.

We are not going to the game today, but we will be watching at home. If you live nearby and you hear a lot of CHEERING this afternoon. That would be ME!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TITANS!!!!!!!

I just had to throw this picture in for kicks. This is Me, Rusty and Phil. Rusty played both offensive and defensive lineman in high school. He was and still is a team leader. He is now in the Navy stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois. I wish he was here with us today to watch the game. Poor kid had his wisdom teeth pulled yesterday. He called me to say he was doing well. In a bit of pain, but mostly just hungry. Imagine that? hahaha
