Can it be SAVED?????

One stormy May morning as the skies lit up like the fourth of July. The one thing a blogger hopes never happens, happened. Yes, the fried computer. The sad thing is the sleep deprived, overworked and very tired user slept through the storm and didn't realize until later that she could NOT blog.

It happened around 3 a.m. I vaguely remember waking and looking out the window, but quickly drifted back to sleep. Only to be told later by the kids in the house (that were still awake) that we had a bad storm. They said the lightening struck right next to the house and immediately after heard crackling noises (the sound a pc makes as it's slowly goes to it's final resting place).

Apparently the lightening struck the cable lines. It first hit my modem, traveled to my router, then to the desktop and there it stopped. My monitor, speakers and printer all seem to be okay.

I could whine, cry, kick and scream, but that's not me. I was wanting a new desktop anyway, so ........... is this a blessing in disguise? Hmmmmmm... Maybe!!

Phil and I went out shopping and seen that we could easily replace the desktop for a few hundred $$$$ and it would be a much better PC than what I have now. I am going to shop around and see what deals are out there. In the meantime we purchased a new modem. We will have to share his laptop. ughh!!!

Phil (who works on electronics and medical equipment) thinks he may be able to save my desktop (darn' I really wanted a new one) and hopefully retrieve all our photos. Keep your fingers crossed he can get the photos back, but I'll get a new PC. :)

Have a happy day

Kris

Oh, I know how you feel. We have never had a "fried"computer but we have had alot of trouble with our Computer cable company. It sometimes is down 2-3 days before they fix the line. That can be so aggravating.

I hope you can retrieve your pictures but that you get a new desktop!! I'll say a prayer for you.

We had computer problems a while back on our Mac Mini. The hard drive crashed after trying to load a CD into Itunes. We lost everything. My husband fussed and worried over that thing for 3 days, and found a way to get it back going again. Luckily, we backed up years and years worth of photo's. I cannot stress that enough, back up, and do it often. Good luck!

Hi Kris, Sorry your computer was hit. It is awful when this problems happen. Ours crashed last year and we would have lots everything if not for our backup.
I hope all goes well and you get back to normal soon.
Hope you have a great day.
Blessings for a wonderful week ahead.
Hugs, Celestina Marie

Oh, I do hope you save your photos - that would be a real loss, wouldn't it? We try to back up our photos onto CD-ROM in case that happens to us, but we're a bit hit-and-miss about it.

Thanks so much for commenting on my giveaway - you are welcome to enter from the US! (I have Antipodeans who read the blog too, so they're much further away!) I will just post everything sloooooowly if you win!

Hope you can save the photos, but get that new desktop! Mine is slowly dying...maybe a good storm could put it out of it's misery! Thanks for the Mother's Day video.

So sorry. This is exactly what happened to me last summer. There is an external hard drive reader, not the technical name, that you hook up to the hard drive taken from your computer and then hook into your new computer. We were able to get all the pics and files this way. I don't know the name of it, but generally, IT departments have one. Nice way to get a new computer. I love mine! :-)
