Earth Hour

Tonight my family participated in Earth Hour.

Lights went out at tourism landmarks and homes across the globe on Saturday for Earth Hour 2009, a global event designed to highlight the threat from climate change.
Australia first held Earth Hour in 2007 and it went global in 2008, attracting 50 million people. The hope is one billion people from 90 countries around the globe will take part.

I do believe we should each do our part to save our planet. Hey' it may save me a few dollars on my electric bill, now that's not a bad deal.

What did we do in our hour of darkness you may ask?

We lit some candles.

Pulled out a deck of cards and poker chips for some good ol' Texas Hold'Em fun.

We had so much fun and decided we are going to do this once a week. One hour once a week NO LIGHTS, NO TV, NO LAPTOPS, NO PC'S, NO RADIO! Nothing but a fun time with the family and a little less of a carbon footprint on this beautiful planet.

I challenge each of you to participate in Earth Hour. Even if it's once a year, once a month, once a week or once a day.

Have a happy day

Kris

I was planning to do so, but I was having dinner in a restaurant at 8.30, with a friend, an appointment which was made months ago. Would you believe that there is no attention whatsoever for Earth Hour over here, neither this year nor last. Last year it was because the dutch Nature foundations thought we already had the campaign save the polar bears, so we couldn't impossible turn out the lights for one hour too! I haven't looked up what the excuse was this year. I'm happy to hear that you took part. Next year I will do too!

I didn't hear about this event ahead of time! I wish I would have, what a good cause to be a part of.

Yes, that was fun. And the hour spent with the kids with no electronic distractions was wonderful.

See you next Thursday night!!
